How Private Touch Wud Sweetheart was brought back to life!
A company called Costumes with Character helped bring me back to life. This is how they put me together so that I could tell my stories to you.
I started life as a big ball of foam with two holes for my eyes and two for my arms!
Then came my tin hat, soldier’s cap and soldier’s straps and boots.
Here are my soldier’s cap and tin hat all ready for action.
This is my cap badge ready to be sewn on.
Once my basic shape had been agreed, my creators had to choose my wood grain and colour.
And then there I was – brought back to life by the skills of the model makers. I am Private Touch Wud Sweetheart, reporting for duty!
The Re-creation of 100 year old charm.
Mainly for adults
Step Short, the charity behind Private Touch Wud Sweetheart, was lucky enough to have Bafta-nominee Gaz Roberts from Thick Black Line to help redesign Touch Wud from the original charm to the cartoon character we now know as Private Touch Wud Sweetheart.
These wonderful first designs (above) really took the character back to the 1900s with their echoes of cartoons, comics and propaganda posters of that period.
The second set (above) captured the spirit of the original Touch Wud Charm and gave our character a cute, child-friendly feel.
The last set captured the soldier element and gave the charm his own identity.
